Cynthia Norton Distinguished as a Professional of the Year in Elementary Education

With 39 years of professional experience, Ms. Norton is gratified when her students succeed in the classroom

CANISTEO, NY, May 26, 2011 /Coaching - Mentoring PR News/ -- Cynthia E. Norton, Second-Grade Educator for the Canisteo-Greenwood Central School District, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in elementary education.

Having been inspired by her childhood teachers, Ms. Norton knew from a young age that she wanted to be an educator. For 39 years, she has immersed herself in diverse areas of education, gathering experience as a teacher's aide, teaching assistant and classroom teacher. These roles exposed her to many teaching styles and techniques, which she customizes to address each child's specific educational needs. In fact, it is the spark of understanding that appears on the faces of her students that she considers to be the most gratifying aspect of her career.

Daily, Ms. Norton teaches reading, ELA, mathematics and science to second-grade students. She strives to "make learning fun" by relating each lesson to the children as well as by collaborating with parents. In addition, she works toward promoting, inspiring and guiding students to love reading. For her vocational excellence, Ms. Norton has received numerous awards, including her most recent distinction as a Professional of the Year representing elementary education by Cambridge Who's Who. She was also named Teacher of the Year for New York State by Premier Who's Who in 2009-2010, and selected for inclusion in Who's Who Among America's Teachers. Ms. Norton is proud to have never taken a sick day throughout her career, and she has accordingly received several perfect attendance awards, including one from Canisteo-Greenwood Elementary School.

Ms. Norton holds a master's degree in elementary education and a Bachelor of Arts from Alfred University. She also earned an Associate of Science from Empire State College in 1985. She is an active member of the Canisteo-Greenwood Education Association and New York State United Teachers.
