Virginia Castro, M.Ed., Honored for Excellence in Physical Education and Athletics

Virginia Castro Has 36 Years of Experience Teaching P.E. and Coaching Varsity Sports

CORONA, CA, September 1, 2009 /Coaching - Mentoring PR News/ -- Virginia Castro, Physical Education Teacher for Corona-Norco Unified School District, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in school athletics.

A 36-year veteran of physical education, Ms. Castro has extensive experience in coaching freshman volleyball and basketball and varsity girls' gymnastics. She has devoted much of her career to Corona High School of Corona-Norco Unified School District. Her primary responsibility is teaching physical education classes, including tennis, swimming, volleyball, basketball, track and field, aerobics, badminton, self-defense, softball and gymnastics. Additionally, she is tasked with educating students about proper nutrition and mentoring new teachers on all subjects.

Prior to assuming her current position, Ms. Castro worked as a physical education mentor from 1993 to 1999, and as drill team advisor and chairwoman of the physical education department from 1979 to 1983. She was an A-rated official in softball and basketball for nine years and coached teams that participated in the California Interscholastic Federation competition four times out of 12 years. She was declared Sunbelt Basketball Coach of the Year in 1983. Ms. Castro considers instilling in her students her own love for sports and encouraging them to make physical activity a part of their daily lives to be the two most gratifying aspects of her career.

Ms. Castro received her Master of Education, with a concentration in Physical Education, in 1994 from Azusa Pacific University, her Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education in 1973 from California State University, Long Beach, and her Associate of Arts in Physical Education in 1970 from Fullerton College. Her professional affiliations include the California State Alliance for Health and Physical Education Recreation and Dance and the Sierra Club.

Additionally, Ms. Castro is an onsite council committee member of Corona High School, a head coach of the Desert U.S.A. Olympic Development League, and a former member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association. She expects to retire within the next five years, at which point she plans to devote her time to participating in community programs to teach tennis to underprivileged children. In addition, she will be volunteering with the Sierra Club and introducing children to various outdoor activities.
