C. Riley Auge Teaches Anthropology at the University of Montana

MISSOULA, MT, September 4, 2009 /Coaching - Mentoring PR News/ -- C. Riley Auge, Adjunct Professor for the University of Montana and Flathead Valley Community College, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in higher education.

Ms. Auge is recognized as an authority on human symbolic expressions of material things. In 2006, she brought her talents to the University of Montana, where she teaches classes in anthropology. Widely traveled across the United States, Mexico and Europe, she places emphasis on fostering cultural understanding, especially among her students. As an educator and researcher, she works to uncover the connections that exist between peoples by studying the meanings hidden in their stories, beliefs and symbolic expressions, rituals, and material culture.

Prior to assuming her current position, Ms. Auge taught comparative mythology, public speaking and interpersonal communications at Flathead Valley Community College. For 11 years, she was a secondary teacher in the public school system, conducting classes in mythology and folklore, AP literature and composition, world literature, and speech and debate. Ms. Auge traces her love for education to the second grade, when she started tutoring third- and fourth-grade students. She has since made a vocation of teaching and learning, and attributes her success to her curiosity, self-confidence and willingness to take risks.

A student at the University of Montana herself, Ms. Auge is pursuing her Ph.D. in Cultural Heritage Studies and Historical Anthropology, with a particular focus on historical archaeology, folk belief systems (magic), gender and boundaries, and museology. She is currently writing her dissertation entitled, "Archaeology, Magic, and Engendered Boundaries in 17th Century New England." She earned her Master of Arts in Folklore, with a concentration in belief systems and material culture, in 2002 from Greenwich University, and her Bachelor of Arts in English in 1992 from the University of Montana.

Ms. Auge is a member of Phi Kappa Phi, the Golden Key International Honour Society, the National Education Association, the Montana Education Association, the American Association of University Women, the Society for Historical Archaeology, the American Folklore Society, the Mythopoeic Society, the International Honor Society of History, Societas Magica, the Vernacular Architecture Forum, Lambda Alpha, the International Multidisciplinary Honor Society, and the National Collegiate Honors Society for Anthropology. In five years, Ms. Auge aspires to teach at York University in England, and teach and conduct research at Ryedale Folk Museum.
