Colleen E. Tanner-Gunn Receives Professional Networking Community's Highest Honor
Colleen E. Tanner-Gunn, Named Professional of the Year in Dance Instruction by Cambridge Who's Who
ROCKVILLE CENTRE, NY, August 26, 2009 /Coaching - Mentoring PR News/ -- Colleen E. Tanner-Gunn, President and Founder of Miss Colleen's Elite Dancentre, has been named Cambridge Who's Who Professional of the Year in Dance Instruction. While inclusion in the Cambridge Who's Who Registry is an honor, only two male and two female members in each discipline are named professionals of the year. The Cambridge Who's Who selection committee chooses these special honorees based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements and leadership abilities.
With over a decade of experience in dance and the performing arts, Colleen E. Tanner-Gunn established her studio, Miss Colleen's Elite Dancentre, five years ago. In her position as artistic director, she teaches hip hop, ballet, jazz, tap, modern dance, musical theatre and introductory dance classes. She and her staff provide private lessons, adult dance classes and training for high school and college dance programs. Ms. Tanner-Gunn's students participate in nation-wide competitions and have performed at high-events and performances. A few especially noteworthy appearances include performances for the Fox Morning News, ABC Nightly News, Channel 12 News, Dee's Nursery Trees for Troops, the pre-game show for the New Jersey Nets and opening acts for singing sensations Amerie and Jesika. Miss Colleen enjoys forming personal and professional bonds with each of her students, and considers having the ability to utilize her experience to teach a future generation of dancers to be particularly gratifying.
Following her commencement from college, Ms. Tanner-Gunn joined the Circle of Dance Repertory Company as a principal dancer. She also contributed to the New York State curriculum for public schools and taught dance education for Sachem Central Schools. As her reputation grew, Ms. Tanner-Gunn began receiving invitations to choreograph programs for the Rosie O'Donnell show, Disney, Costa Cruises, and ABC television. She accepted a permanent choreography position working with Phat Cat Records and DJG Productions, Inc., and choreographed a number of off-Broadway productions alongside writer, Mike Albo. Although she has worked with some tremendous talent, Ms. Tanner-Gunn recalls working with the likes of LFO, O-Town, Nick Lachey, 98 Degrees, C+C Music Factory to have been especially rewarding.
Ms. Tanner-Gunn holds a bachelor's degree in dance performance from Roger Williams University. She is a member of the Rockville Centre Chamber of Commerce, the Rockville Centre Mercy League and the National Association of Professional Women. Additionally, she is listed in the National Directory of Who's Who in Dance Educators in New York and the Continental Who's Who for top professionals in dance education. Most recently, Ms. Tanner-Gunn trained Matthew Nolan from the NBC syndicated reality television show, "Grease: You're the One that I Want." Looking to the future, she intends to expand her business with a focus on marketing and public relations and perhaps open a clothing store.
