John J. Donohue celebrates 28 years in the recreation and sports industry
SAN FRANCISCO, CA, June 24, 2009 /Coaching - Mentoring PR News/ -- John J. Donohue, Teacher, Coach and Director of the San Francisco Youth Sports Travel Fund, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in all aspects of recreation.
As a teacher, coach and director of the San Francisco Youth Sports Travel Fund, Mr. Donohue became involved in his profession when he recognized the difficulty for youths in the community to raise funds to travel. The organization comes up with solutions to raise money for transportation. Mr. Donohue currently teaches physical education at Lowell High School, the oldest college-prep high school West of the Mississippi, founded in 1856. A retired registered athletic administrator, he has served as a varsity baseball coach for 27 years. His team has won 11 Section championships in San Francisco. He currently holds 599 wins, the fourth highest rank among California baseball coaches. He attributes his success to his parents who instilled strong values in him, his Jesuit education and his ability to work with young people.
Mr. Donohue received his Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of San Francisco in 1973 and is a member of the American Baseball Coaches Association and the National High School Baseball Coaches Association. He served on the Board of Directors for the United Irish Cultural Center from 2005 to 2007 and is affiliated with the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association.
In 1978, he won the Nat Lewis Memorial Award from the Westside Jewish Community Center in Los Angeles. In 2002, he was presented the Norm MacKenzie Award for his service as an Athletic Director at Lowell High School by the California State Athletic Directors Association. In 2007, he was honored with the Region Coach of the Year Award from the American Baseball Coaches Association and also received the Baseball Coach of the Year Award from the California Coaches Association in 2006 and the Certificate of Honor from the San Francisco Board of Supervisors in 2006 and 1981. Mr. Donohue hopes to retire as a teacher and director and continue coaching baseball and helping young athletes travel.
